modeMD Solves Problem of HIPAA Compliant Face Sheet
The last major link in achieving HIPAA compliance for Physician Practices has been solved with the

Reno, Nevada - March 28, 2003 - Until now the patient face sheet and physician
charge sheet have been a huge security risk. These papers contain detailed
patient personal information and are often mislaid, left lying around or are
faxed without regard for communications security. modeMD has solved this major
problem with an electronic face and charge sheet that stores and transmits the
patient information securely and in a fashion that is more than fully compliant

Prior to the modeMD solution a Physician wrote patient diagnostic and treatment
information on pieces of paper as they rounded in the hospital. These pieces of
paper, kept in the Physician's pocket, were left in their cars or on their desk
at home at the end of the day. They often stayed there for a couple of weeks before
being sent to their practice billing office. During this time there was ample
opportunity to lose the papers or have them read by third parties. In some cases
these charge sheets were transferred to spreadsheets and then emailed (another
security risk) to the practice office. Doing these detailed reports at the end
of a long day guarantees that errors are introduced and not all visits are captured.
Sometimes another physician or their practice office urgently required patient
treatment information so the patient charge sheet was faxed. Unfortunately fax
communications are inherently insecure because there is no end-to-end check
that the papers were sent to the correct number, and the information is transmitted
unencrypted over standard telephone lines.
With the modeMD solution the patient demographic, diagnostic and treatment information
is stored securely on the Physician's PDA, which can only be accessed by the Physician.
This information is then sent using encrypted transmission to a physically secure
datacenter where it is held until accessed by authenticated personnel from the physician's
billing office. The modeMD service has more than twice the security protection required
